Reflections

I registered for EDRS 590 for three reasons: terrific time slot, on-site training and a different viewpoint. I earned more than I bargained for.

Educational Research: Planning, Conducting, and Evaluating Quantitative and Qualitative Research, by John Creswell (3rd Ed.)

The class was compressed into a half-semester during the summer: two hours every morning, five days a week, five weeks. Show up early and be prepared to work; thank heaven for the reverse commute.

I took the EDRS class because it was a parallel to EDIT 590 and was available when I was; I'd just been laid off from work. I expected to learn how to go into a library to research a topic, but I learned so much more. Two aspects of the class I'll be using over and over are literature reviews and APA style.

Our class group was small and focused on education. The student were already teachers or on their way to their first teaching jobs. This group focused more on what the trainer or teacher was experiencing, instead of what the user was expecting. This was an interesting reversal from the rest of my studies.
